Description
A Yoruba dandogo was a large flared robe with voluminous sleeves, designed to flare out when the wearer danced. Tailored from soft thick hand spun indigo dyed cotton asooke cloth in the large check pattern that was called “petuje” which roughly translates as surpasses “etu”, the prestigious finely checked guineafowl pattern. There area number of worn spots and a couple of holes in this robe, condition issues reflected in the sale price. Dates from early C20th.
