Description
AGB145. Early to mid 20th white hand spun cotton robe. White cloth was particularly associated with Islamic notions of purity and suitable for wear by high ranking clerics, Muslim rulers and chiefs, and on festival days. It was called fari in Hausa and fuu in Yoruba. While this cloth could have been woven by either a Hausa or a Yoruba weaver the sparse, rather angular embroidery suggests Hausa work. Condition is excellent.
Measurements: 108 inches x 50, 275 cm x 127 cm
