Description

Unusual portrait format Fante Asafo flag from Ghana with a central text reading “Tarkwa Breman” , a depiction of the Asafo company shrine, posuban, in the small town of Tarkwa, surmounted by a dark red velvet cockerel. It likely commemorates a personal link between the Asafo officer who commissioned the flag and the German port city of Bremen. Perhaps he was a merchant seaman like many other Fante men over the years. There’s some water marks near the top edge and a few tiny holes. Dates from circa 1960s.
Measurements 4’2″ x 2’10”, 126 cm x 87.
