Description
Stunning saffron yellow and indigo blue check kente men’s cloth dating from around the 1920s or 1930s. The slightly fuzzy looking lines you can see across the strips have a distinctive tactile effect created by the weaver leaving the passes back and forth of the blue weft slightly loose before returning to the tightly woven yellow. A few red highlights are set, apparently at random, among the blue motifs and stripes. White lines from the dark blue blocks. Overall a carefully woven and rather splendid cloth, perhaps the best one I have seen in these colours. In excellent complete condition.
Measurements 10′ x 6’3″, 305 cm x 190. .
