Description
Fine Ewe kente chief’s cloth with a subtle check background pattern of pink, pale blue, and white. Each of the weft faced blocks is different, built up from narrow weft stripes in unusual colour combinations that repay careful attention. Between these blocks are numerous small figurative and geometric weft float motifs including birds, fish, people etcetera. There are a few larger weft float motifs in a distinctive style, including a man on horseback, and what looks to be a pair of seated people. We had this cloth cleaned and repaired by a professional conservator and it is in excellent condition. Dates from circa 1930-1950.
Measurements 123 inches X 69, 312 cm X 176.
