Description
Quirky and interesting woman’s wrapper cloth that has numerous Ewe type figurative and geometric weft float motifs framed between Asante kente style borders. Motifs include birds, swords, and a great Xmas tree. Perhaps the lady who ordered it from the weaver wanted to wear it for a Christmas celebration. Dark blue and white striped cotton ground, float motifs and border woven from artificial silk. Dates from circa 1960s. Very faint pink colour run in the borders, otherwise very good condition. The predominance of weft faced bands in the borders compresses the warp in those areas making the ends of the cloth narrower than the central field.
Measurement: 73 inches x 39, 186 cm x 100 cm.
