Description
E1154 – A real curiosity, this is an Ewe kente men’s cloth overdyed with indigo in a rather basic stitch resist pattern of squares and triangles. The ground cloth is typically Ewe 4 inch wide strip weave with an allover pattern of supplementary warp float making rows of small stripes and giving an interesting textured effect to the cloth. Most probably the overdyeing was done to revive a faded cloth, perhaps for funerary use. I can’t recall seeing another example of an Ewe cloth like this. Dates from mid C20TH. Condition is excellent.
Measurements 285 cm X 193, 112 inches X 76.
