Description

Nicely soft faded hand drawn starch resist indigo dyed Yoruba “adire eleko” woman’s wrapper cloth from Nigeria. Dating from around 1970 this cloth is a version of a classic adire design called “Olokun,” after a Yoruba orisa deity associated with good fortune, and in particular with wealth from the sea. In excellent condition.
Measurements 6′6″ x 6′, 198 cm x 183. It has become extremely hard over the past few years to find these beautiful vintage adire cloths in Nigeria. and prices have risen accordingly. From a Canadian private collection assembled circa 1970.
