Description

Very rare style of weft faced men’s cloth with six strips 9″/23 cm wide. Quite thick hand spun cotton thread. This is the 3rd or 4th example of this obscure cloth style I have collected over the past 20 years. They differ from weft faced Ewe cloths in look and weight and are attributed by dealers in Ghana to one of the small Akan kingdoms in the range of hills 50 km or so inland from Accra. Nobody seems to know the precise location and the examples I have seen are sufficiently similar that they are likely from a single workshop or perhaps even a single weaver. Dates from first half of C20th and is in excellent complete condition. Measurements 8′ x 5’5″, 244 cm x 165.
