Description
Another interesting and innovative Fulani wedding blanket from Mali, circa 1970s. An intricately patterned monochrome central field is framed by the type of classic checkerboard layout that used to be worked in dark indigo and white. There are surprisingly few black and white cloths woven in West Africa and this piece provides a clear contrast to the multiple bright colours that typify Fulani weaving over the past 50 years. In excellent complete condition, dates from circa 1970s.
Measurements 8’6″ x 4’7″, 259 cm x 140.
