Description
Six different strip patterns, including a lovely pale yellow, combine in this exceptional woman’s wrapper cloth from the Bondoukou region of north eastern Ivory Coast. Blue weft blocks on the yellow strips pick up the colour of the other patterns, while delicate coloured inserts are set within narrow weft blocks on an indigo hand spun cotton ground. As is often the case with these types of mixed strip cloths there is a pleasing haphazard interaction of colour and shapes with adjacent strips. Dates from circa 1950s and is in excellent condition.
Measurements 5’7″ x 3’7, 170 cm x 110.
