Description

Beautiful faded indigo warp stripes are crossed every 25 cms  by a broad white stripe in the weft that is muted by the predominance of the warp colours in this rare men’s wrapper cloth from the Bondoukou region close to the border between Ghana and Ivory Coast. This is a strong hand spun cotton fabric fabric with a soft handle.    There is a lot of mostly quite recent “indigo” fabric from Burkina Faso and Mali around at the moment but older and more beautiful pieces like these can still occasionally be found by patient searching in other West African countries. Signs of wear but overall in good neat condition. Dates from circa 1920-1940.

Measures 135 ins X 69, 342 cm X 175.
