Description
Two charming and finely woven bird motifs adorn this comparatively modest example of a ultra rare style of prestige textile from central Ivory Coast. This small cloth would have been folded lengthwise and worn over the shoulder by an elder of chief from the Guro or neighbouring peoples. Others from the few known examples are larger and have a wider variety of figurative motifs. Signs of wear in faint marks , otherwise in good complete condition, this cloth dates from the early decades of the twentieth century.
Measurements 4’6″ x 2’5″, 136 cm x 74.
