Description
Beautiful soft blue and white cotton kente cloth with an unusually well thought out design. Woven by a weaver from the Ewe people of south eastern Ghana this lovely small cloth would have formed one of a pair worn by a wealthy lady as ceremonial attire. Solid blocks of dark blue on alternate strips define the borders, while the main field combines rows of geometric motifs with narrow weft lines in a technique that gives a slightly textured effect. Dates from circa 1930-60. Condition is excellent.
Measurement: 74 inches x 42, 188 cm x 108 cm.
