Description
One for indigo lovers. Faded and worn like a much loved pair of jeans. Indigo handspun cotton strip weave tunic for a chief or other senior man among the Kotokoli or neighboring people in the savannah belt of northern Benin Republic. The only example of this rare type of tunic that I have seen in this beautiful faded out condition. There’s fraying around the neck and cuffs but otherwise it’s intact and neat, with no holes or stains. Dates from the first half of c20th.
Measurements as shown, width 59 inches, 150 cm, length 46 inches, 117 cm. This is a very wearable garment as well as a beautiful display item.
