Description
Superb late C19th museum quality Ewe kente woman’s cloth in a rare style. Weft faced blocks are precisely aligned to create a lattice on a dark red and indigo striped ground. Notice the blue borders of the yellow blocks. The single narrow warp faced strip marks the lower edge of the cloth, as was usual in this period and style. There was never any top edge strip. Fragmentary and badly damaged examples of C19th cloths like this are relatively easy to find but a complete example in near perfect condition is really exceptional. Measurements 6′ x 3’11”, 183cm x 120.
