Description
Fine early twentieth century strip woven Yoruba aso oke woman’s wrapper cloth, iborun. At this period hand spun indigo dyed cotton was the basis of aso oke weaving, as it had been for centuries, providing the weft thread and most of the warp for this subtly beautiful textile. Imported industrial cotton in white and wine red, plus a narrow stripe of green imported silk complete the design. In excellent complete condition, dates from around 1900-1920.
Measurement: 79 ins x 54, 200 cm x 138.
