Description
Pairs of red and of white weft stripes cross the handspun indigo dyed cotton ground pattern of this unusual woman’s wrapper cloth from Ivory Coast. Woven by a weaver from the Abron or Koulango people in the region of Bondoukou , close to the border with Ghana. Slight variations in the order of the weft stripes add visual interest to the pattern. In excellent condition, one tiny darned repair. Dates from circa 1930-1950s. Measurements: 74 inches X 44, 188 cm X 111.
