Description
The pattern of three coloured central warp stripes on a background of large check woven from indigo dyed hand spun cotton indicates classic design Yoruba asooke cloth woven quite early in the C20th, perhaps around the 1920s. However as was often the case the original sewing between the strips was replaced many decades later by slightly hasty machine sewing that repaired the cloth for subsequent wear. It’s in good strong condition.
Measurements 74 inches x 45 1/2, 189 cm x 116.
