Description

Unusual minimal Ewe kente men’s cloth with densely packed dark blue cotton warp floats almost concealing the yellow ground weave on the front face of the cloth, resulting in a two sided effect. Supplementary warp float is a rare technique in West African weaving but one the Ewe used for at least 100 years relatively sparingly. Effectively a separate dark blue warp that goes over and under the ground weave. In good complete condition, washed but with some marks on the yellow back. Dates from circa 1930s. This is a large rather thick cloth that would be great for interiors use.
Measurements 124 inches x 89, 314 cm x 226.
