Description
Mid C20th Yoruba asooke woman’s wrapper cloth with a staggered array of light brown extra weft float motifs across the field, alternating with rows of openwork and floating threads on the white background. The central rectangular motifs with internal zigzags are a variation on the classic Koran writing board motif that I have not seen before. The cloth is in excellent complete condition. These strong cloths make excellent wall hangings or furnishing fabrics for pillows or small upholstery projects.
Measurements 6’10” x 5’1″, 208 cm x 155.
