Description
A slightly muted red wine colour predominates in the background pattern of this huge kente men’s cloth, setting off multiple blocks of stripes in the weft. Although at first glance this looks like an Ewe kente it is actually the work of an Akan weaver in western Ivory Coast, responding to the long history of cloths traded from Ghana to the courts of the numerous small kingdoms in the region. We can observe the rather simplified choices of motifs and colours as compared with the Ewe. Dates from circa 1950s or 1960s and is in excellent complete condition.
Measurements 11’1″ x 6’6″, 338 cms x 197.
